But then my perfect little picture of what our "first day" was to look like, started to unravel. My camera battery died after 3 quick photos (I hadn't charged it because I couldn't find the charger, plus, I thought my Canon and I had had an understanding that it needed to last only through the morning), which didn't matter anyways as there wasn't much to take photos of. The girls quickly met up with their friends, grabbed their supplies, yelled a quick "Bye, I love you" over their shoulders and then were gone. Ben had to catch a flight less than an hour after the drop off, so he hopped into the cab just seconds after the girls walked through their gate. Which meant I was suddenly left alone.
Now, this "alone" feeling is a funny thing. Because so often I want to go grocery shopping alone, or to the mall alone, or even just read alone. Now I got to do all those things alone and to be honest, it was a little, well... lonely.
But, soon enough it was time for Tito and I to pick up the girls and get slurpees to celebrate their first day (and combat the miserable heat). And with no less than 10,000 words, their adoration for their teachers (yeah, we kinda hit the teacher jackpot this year ;), and their tripping over each other to describe their classrooms, all the new things they would get to do this year, what they did at recess and lunch, which friends they saw and all the things they can earn with good behavior suddenly made every second we were apart worth it. :)
So, here it is.
My sole picture from the girls' first day of school
...and I didn't even get a shot of Gwen's cute skirt. ;)
Girls, how I pray this will be a year of great growth
for you both academically and personally.
We love you... more! ;)
